Well like I said, I don't know much about anything pertaining to history, but maybe if we push the time up to the 1920s, there were a lot of things going on in New York that we could probably fit in XD (Gangsters and prohibition are the first things that come to mind but I'm sure there's other things too pfft)dernhelm wrote:yeah! omg you got Italian roots, that's so cool!
Ah, yes that was my idea sort of. 1890's thereabouts.
I was thinking Romano like his people is pretty reserved and doesn't want any help. Though at some point he must simply admit that he could use some help to get his pronunciation right. Also the American system is very different then back home.
With Romano more at ease himself he tries to get the poor immigrants to open up to America so they can get their sorrow situation better under control in the tenements. They are proud people but Romano convinces them that with some basic changes they can improve their lives and that of their children.
But I haven't got a clue what else was going on in New York at that time, I only know about the immigrants.
I really like america and I have never played an rp with him, so I'm also very curious how they will react to eachother.
Considering how Romano can be a bit similar to England at times, I can see them getting along just fine—America is cheerful yet stubborn, so even if Romano tries to push him away he'll probably just keep trying to help until Romano finally gives in XDD And yes, you made a very good point—Italians (especially ones born and raised in Italy) are very prideful, and they have the mentality of doing things either by themselves, or with the help of their family; getting help from an outside source is a last resort that they try and avoid at all costs XD;;
Also, my father has told me plenty of stories about his struggles as a boy raised in Italy until he was 7 years old before being brought to America: back then there were no laws against child labor, so he was already working at 7 years old as soon as he arrived in America, even before he was able to fully speak the language, and in school he was often picked on and bullied because of his "weird" name and his difficulty speaking English. Not only that, but schools back then weren't like they are today—they just kept bumping him up to the next grade each year regardless of whether he was keeping up, so he ended up graduating high school without even being able to properly read or write English, and he had to teach himself for the most part in order to move on to college and get a degree. (To this day he still has difficulty with spelling, and he's been in America for a bit over 40 years.) Just some things I thought I'd throw out there in case you were interested in incorporating any of this into the RP in any way XD;
