I actually thought it was a bit FrUK-ish, too.
I really love the comics. Especially the ones about Ukraine now. Becuase they're spot on and funny.
Some are a bit sad, though. But they are all worth checking out!

what I like about hetalia ( and what upsets me a bit about poland ball)
Is that hetalia handle's sensitive issues more delicately. In hetalia no country is really a 'badguy' and they focus more on the human parts of history.
In (what I've seen of) Polandball they go into some pretty heavy things!

You have to look at it from a distance, really. Hetalia was originally made by one person - and he could draw his characters accordingly to how he wanted them to be portrayed. Polandball has long since become something that is shared, many people draw Polandball comics and upload them to the page. This causes it to evolve, since everyone has their own opinion on many subjects.

You shouldn't dig too deep, and don't worry about the good and bad being visible in the comic strips. It's just a point of view.
